Superioress General Visits Ukraine
Magnificat still resounds in the hearts of the Sisters serving in Ukrainian territories for the wonderful time of the visit of our Superioress General, Sister Françoise PETIT, from August 25 to 29, 2022.
During this very difficult time when this country is suffering the horror of war and the Sisters continue to serve those who are poor, families, children, refugees, soldiers on the front lines, population under occupation…. we had the great joy of experiencing the visit, which was not only a great support and confirmation of the unity of the Company but also an affirmation of the need to remain where the Daughters of Charity are most needed.
Superioress General visited the communities of Sisters serving those who are poor in: a nursing home for the sick in Smotrycz (Chełmno Province).
In Śniatyń, the special place where the tomb of Blessed Marta Wiecka is found, the Superioress General met with the Sisters of the Cracow Province who are in mission in Bałta, Odessa, Storożyniec and Śniatyń. Sister Françoise spent a meaningful time getting better acquainted with our ministries and visiting with those who are in need in their homes. With members of the AIC and the JMV, she got to know poor multi-child families, those who are sick in their homes, and the children with disabilities during rehabilitation at the Śniatyń centre.
In Svaliavo and Perechina, Sister Françoise visited the Sisters of the Slovak Province who serve in the Transcarpathian region.
Everywhere, we felt the presence of the Superioress General as Saint Louise de Marillac once was present, her message bringing peace, support and union. At this time, what resounds within us is the certainty that the Company of the Daughters of Charity, years ago and now, always stand on the side of the poorest.
We are immensely grateful to our Superioress General and Sister Hanna CYBULA, General Councillor, for the effort to come and be with us and those we serve and to meet with co-workers and the members of the Congregation of the Mission. This support is deeply precious to us and affirms our conviction to remain where God, in His Providence, has placed us.
