Sealed with the Vows

Last June, the Daughters of Charity in the United States convened Sisters under 10 years of vocation for a vow institute. Ten Sisters from the two Provinces gathered for a week at the Provincial House of the Province of Elizabeth Ann Seton in Los Altos Hills, California. Fr. Patrick Griffin C.M. came to give the conferences and focused them on being “Sealed with the Vows.”

The Vow Institute occurs once every 3 years to assemble Sisters under 10 years vocation and to have a deeper knowledge of the Vows as well as to enjoy recreational activities in the evenings. The first day was dedicated to enjoying each other’s company as the Sisters spent a day in the beach and in the redwood forest; they were accompanied by the Councilors for Formation from the two Provinces of the United States.

Each day was centered on a different vow: its uniqueness to our community and its connection with our seal. The Sisters were given time in the afternoon to pray or reflect on what they had heard and then were invited to come back to share to the larger group about what God has given them as inspiration. Several mentioned being moved or challenged to look at a particular aspect of the seal or vow in a new way. Others walked away mentioning that more time would be needed to reflect on what they had heard and how it impacted them.

Then of course evening recreations ranged from fun games, to challenges, to spending time together in community.
