Following the path of Jesus and following the example of Saint Vincent de Paul and Saint Louise de Marillac, the Daughters of Charity proclaim the gospel by serving the poor. From the beginning of the Company, the Daughters of Charity have made themselves available everywhere and in all poverty because they know that “God awaits them in those who suffer” (constitutions 7 b).
The needs of peoples evolve at the rate of changes and developments in societies. Thus, “by their suffering brothers and sisters, by the signs of the times, and by the Church” (constitutions 11a) the Company discerns the calls of Christ. This is why the missions in which the Daughters of Charity engage are constantly changing and adapting.
