Women’s promotion

God created humankind in his image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them. (Gn 1:27)

Women are equal to men in dignity since they are both images of God. That was so clear to Jesus that, even knowing that what He did was not allowed by the religious rules, He talked to women, let them approach, touch and follow Him. Women have an important and particular task in building up God’s Kingdom and their characteristics and gifts should be recognized and valued as important contributions to society.

Women make up 50% of the population, however, in many cultures and societies they are abused and not given their rightful place. In many places they are the most vulnerable group in different societies. As women disciples of Jesus and servants of those who are poor and marginalized, the Daughters of Charity are committed to women’s promotion. We are working with them to redress the inequality that continues to exist through:

  •  Sponsoring Empowerment projects for women
  •  Providing Safe Housing for women
  •  Providing  alternatives for women trapped in prostitution
  •  Promoting the role of Women in Society
