Homeless people

Foxes have dens and birds of the sky have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to rest his head.(Mt 8:20)

Each day, more people live on the streets: men, women and children. The reasons they become homeless are different, but always painful and crucial to a life often marked by loneliness, insecurity, violence and lack of hope. In general, society seems to be afraid of them and would like to take them off the streets, but it is very difficult to reintegrate them, to give them conditions to live a dignified life.

In working with homeless people we, Daughters of Charity, offer respect, friendship and non-judgemental care trying to put in place all the services needed to take a person from the streets back into society. These services include:

  • drop-in centers
  • night shelters
  • meal provision
  • health care
  • clothing
  • detoxification
  • access to government and voluntary services
  • hostels
  • temporary accommodation
  • literacy and self-empowerment programs
  • advocacy
  • job search
